The Challenge

Lagan Homes approached Campion Pumps to develop a wastewater pump station for a residential project on a greenfield site in Louth. The project had to comply with Irish Water’s strict regulations while addressing environmental concerns and fitting into a tight site layout. We knew delivering a solution that balanced efficiency and sustainability would be crucial.

The project presented several challenges that Campion Pumps had to overcome and adapt to:

  • Compliance – The pump station needed to meet Irish Water’s waste management codes.
  • Environmental Impact – Preventing groundwater contamination was key while also ensuring sustainable construction methods.
  • Site Constraints – Fitting a fully compliant pump station into a compact space required precise design work.

Our Approach

To address these challenges, Campion Pumps delivered a tailored solution. Flygt Concentor Pumps with integrated Variable Speed Drive (VSD) were installed, which reduced energy usage while maintaining high performance. The site needed custom concrete tanks, so these were designed to fit the specific spatial constraints. Using low-carbon GGBS concrete was also an important decision to ensure the environmental impact was minimised.

Project Implementation

  1. Offsite Manufacturing: Precast concrete tanks were prepared offsite, ensuring faster installation.
  2. Onsite Installation: The tanks were installed and backfilled, followed by the mechanical and electrical fit-out. All are managed by the campion team
  3. Testing and Commissioning: After thorough testing and certification, Campion Pumps handed the pump station over, ready for operation.
  4. The project included the installation of a surge vessel and due the to 24-week lead time on this item it delayed the project completion by 4 weeks, there were 18 weeks serpent on site from the start of the tank installation to completion.

The Outcome

Campion Pumps delivered a fully compliant wastewater pump station that met all Irish Water standards, while also keeping to Lagan Homes’ budget and timeline. Some key outcomes include:

  • Timely Completion – The pump station was commissioned on time, allowing the residential project to proceed without delays.
  • Environmental Benefits – By using low-carbon concrete and smart pump controls, the station’s CO2 emissions were reduced during both construction and operation.
  • Client Satisfaction – Lagan Homes was pleased with how the project was handled, particularly our clear communication and the fact that we met every deadline. As a result, a service and maintenance contract was put in place to continue supporting the station until it was handed over to Uisce Éireann.

This project is another example of Campion Pumps’ ability to deliver efficient, sustainable solutions for our clients. By combining innovative pump monitoring technology (Campion Connect) offsite manufacturing, and a focus on environmental responsibility, we helped Lagan Homes meet their goals without any delays. Our collaborative approach ensured the project was completed on time and most importantly, on budget.
